UCHIGO and SHIZIMI Gallery is pleased to announce a solo exhibition by Shinpei Okawa who is a Tokyo-based painter, starting from Monday, February 28th, 2022.
In this exhibition, we will mainly present new works by Okawa, who creates a multifaceted world by combining images that are left in the landscapes, fragments of personal history in memories and art history.
We hope you will come and enjoy his detailed and expressive works, and also the unique space that is woven by them at the venue. We sincerely look forward to seeing you at the exhibition.
ARTIST STATEMENT
The corners of the city are littered with fragments of the past, like ghosts. People are clipping their lives everywhere they go and leaving their shadows on the landscape along with their faded emotions.
The myriad of shadows are endless, and these are like old signs, they lose their meaning in society as they just go past people and stay there.
Houses will eventually be demolished that have finished their purpose. It will be a vacant lot for a while, and it will be a new building of some kind before you know. I wonder how long I’ll be able to remember the previous appearance.
The city includes the past without sorting out, but it is also ready to lose them.
