*Chinese follows Japanese
UCHIGO and SHIZIMI Gallery is pleased to present Huang Poren’s sculptures from May 14th through June 25th. This is the first exhibition of his works at our gallery.
Huang Poren (黄柏仁) is a Taiwan-based sculptor—also a dog lover— who creates works using various materials such as wood, iron, and bicycle parts and is considered one of the most exciting up-and-coming artists in Taiwan. In this exhibition, we feature one of his iconic series “The Dog’s Notes”. What Mr. Poren aims to create with this series is not only the eye-catching expression of the active and compassionate characteristics that dogs possess. He also tries to make manifest the philosophical lessons that dogs bring to our modern life and reveal the compatibility and mutuality that exists between humans and dogs.
“The Dog’s Notes” is a symbol of the intimate relationship between dogs and human beings. Mr. Poren hopes for visitors to feel this, discuss it, and interact with the works. He wishes that the positive energy created through this continuous process will be delivered to everyone in the world and make the world a better place to live. The exhibition presents a valuable opportunity to see his works together in one place in Japan, so we hope you will enjoy them at the UCHIGO and SHIZIMI Gallery.
PROFILE
HUANG Poren|Sculptor
Poren was born in 1970 in Taichung City, central Taiwan, and is currently based in the area. His talent as a sculptor has its roots in his family's wood-carving business. Since graduating from the department of sculpture at Hu-Hsin Trade and Arts School in 1989, he has expanded his scope as an artist through his participation in art fairs in numerous countries and through his involvement in solo exhibitions around the globe, not only in Asia, but also in the United States and Europe. “The Archer”, a Taiwanese aborigine-themed sculpture is mentioned in the art textbook of Taiwanese higher education institutions and his “Happy Time”, expressing the happiness of being free, is in the collection of the National Taiwan Museum of Fine Art. Due to his remarkable success in Taiwan, he is recognized as one of the most promising artists in his home country.
